Why I switched from writing Romance to Crime…

I feel like I’ve had to keep it quiet for so long, and now I can say that I’ve signed a three-book publishing deal with Bookouture!

The other big news is that my new book will be the first in a series of crime thrillers. I’ve always written drama as well as comedy, and I have had an idea for a female police detective rolling around my head for several years, refusing to go away until I put pen to paper!

As a regular follower of my blog and social media, you will know how much I value my readers, and I know lots of you love my romantic comedies. So I want to assure you that I will continue to write the Coco Pinchard books and stand-alone romantic comedies too.

So for for some time now I have been developing this new crime series about a tough, yet vulnerable female detective. DCI Erika Foster is quite a maverick in the British police force. The first book will be called, The Girl In The Ice and it sees her brought in to investigate the murder of a young woman linked to a powerful family within the UK establishment.  Erika starts to uncover more than her bosses bargained for, and soon she finds herself embroiled in an investigation with unexpected twists and turns, where the body count keeps rising.

I wrote this new thriller on spec, not telling anyone about it. When the opportunity came along to sign with Bookouture, it was a dream come true. They are a relatively new publishing house, but they have quickly established themselves with a track record of fantastic bestsellers both in the UK , US, and many other territories. They have a brilliant team who share all the same values as I do. They want to produce the best books, and they know that the most important people are the readers!

There was some debate if I should write under a different name, but we’ve decided that I will keep my name, and write these new crime thrillers as Robert Bryndza. One of the reasons behind this was that I get so many messages from readers saying that they stumbled across my books looking for a change after reading something dramatic. So I know lots of you like to read crime, just as much as you like to read romantic comedy or women’s fiction. I do hope you want to come with me on this exciting next part of the ride, and I am so excited for you all to meet DCI Erika Foster.

The Girl In The Ice will be released in spring 2016. Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks, and thanks, as ever, for all your support and wonderful messages.

Rob Bryndza xx

    Hello Robert,

I’m thrilled to hear your news.

I absolutely adore the Coco Pinchard books, but I must confess that Amazon has let me download three of them free over the last few months, jolly nice for me, but a real swizz for you .

Do you have a pet charity to which I could make a donation in lieu, please ?

Can’t wait to get my hands on the new books.

Very best wishes for the exciting future

  4. Hi Robert,
I hope you are keeping well. Thank you for the update and fantastic news about your new three book publishing deal. Congratulations!! I have said before how much I enjoy your books and I know you work extremely hard perfecting your novels. I wish you every success with your new genre of books, I’m sure they will be fantastic and look forward to a different kind of read. Personally, if you don’t mind me saying, I am pleased you’ve kept your name Robert Bryndza, As I associate you as being a best selling author. I am a 46yr old mum of two, and after introducing my 20 yr old daughter to the Coco Pinchard series, she too is hooked.

I would also like to mention, how impressed I am that you take the time to reply to all your readers comments. It’s so nice to know that someone as successful as you, has such strong values and appreciates “us ordinary people” who buy your books. Most would not bother, in fact I can say that only one other author has ever stopped to take the time to reply to my emails, and that is the lovely Milly Johnson from Yorkshire.

Anyway, enough of my waffling! …

Have a fantastic time in the world of books. Every success for the future,

    Love and best wishes,
    From your favourite fan,
    Michelle x
